Unaided Intermediate Vision: A Paradigm Shift in Cataract Surgery?
2 CPD in Australia | DR JAY YOHENDRAN
There are so many intraocular lenses (IOLs) available today for your patients undergoing cataract surgery. Over the last couple of years, more and more IOLs have been launched, with differing technologies and mechanisms of action. Keeping abreast of the unique properties of each of these lenses is becoming more challenging. Your patients will expect your help and guidance when choosing the most suitable IOL for their particular circumstance. In the past, patients who were motivated to be spectacle independent had the option of a bifocal IOL, or a monovision arrangement, to achieve unaided distance and reading vision. Unfortunately, there would be a ‘gap’ in the middle, so that intermediate tasks, such as computer use, were difficult. Will the next generation of IOLs fill this gap?
